llms.txt, structured data (schema) and letting AI assistants’ crawlers read your site are the three AEO basics that help ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Google AI Mode understand and recommend a hospital or clinic. The tools on this page do all three in minutes, with no coding.

All three are among the items HDmall’s website health check report finds missing most often on hospital and clinic sites. If you are not sure why they matter, read the AEO guide for hospitals and clinics first.

1. Check whether AI assistants’ crawlers can read your site

Enter your website address to see whether each crawler may read your home page. Crawlers used for search and answers should all be allowed; crawlers that collect training data are your policy choice.

Can AI assistants’ crawlers read your site?

Enter your hospital or clinic website. We read its robots.txt and check for an llms.txt file, then show whether each crawler may read the home page.

Checks the home page against robots.txt only. A site’s bot protection can still block some crawlers even when robots.txt allows them.

If search crawlers are blocked, ask whoever manages your site to edit robots.txt. An example that allows search-and-answer crawlers and blocks training crawlers:

User-agent: GPTBot
Disallow: /

User-agent: ClaudeBot
Disallow: /

User-agent: *
Allow: /

Sitemap: https://yourclinic.com/sitemap.xml

If you do not want to block any crawler, leave out the first two groups.

2. Create an llms.txt file

llms.txt is a short text file summarising who the facility is, its services, prices, location, hours and how to book, written for AI assistants. Fill in the details below and download the file.

llms.txt generator

Fill in your hospital or clinic details; the llms.txt file updates as you type. Copy or download it and place it at yourclinic.com/llms.txt. The pre-filled example is made up.

Place the file at the root of your site so it opens at yourclinic.com/llms.txt, and update it whenever prices, services or hours change. llms.txt was proposed in 2024 (llmstxt.org); some AI assistants may not use it yet, but it is easy and almost free to add.

3. Generate structured data (schema)

Structured data is code that tells Google and AI directly what the facility is called, where it is, when it is open, which doctors work there and which questions it answers. This tool produces schema.org code as JSON-LD, the format Google recommends.

Schema generator

Fill in the details, then copy the code into the <head> of your home page or send it to whoever manages your site. It combines facility, hours, doctors and FAQs in one block. The pre-filled example is made up.

Test it with Rich Results Test · Schema Markup Validator

Points to watch:

  • Place it on the page where the information appears. Facility and hours on the home page; FAQ code only on the page showing the same questions and answers
  • It must match what people see, on the page and on your Google Business Profile; Google may ignore data that does not
  • Test after every change with Google’s Rich Results Test or the Schema Markup Validator

After using the tools

  1. Run the crawler check again after editing robots.txt
  2. Open yourclinic.com/llms.txt to confirm the file is in the right place
  3. Test the schema with the Rich Results Test
  4. Measure monthly with the AI visibility tracker

Frequently asked questions

What is llms.txt?

llms.txt is a short text file on your website written for AI assistants, summarising who the business is, its services, prices, location, hours and how to get in touch or book, with links to key pages. It lives at yourclinic.com/llms.txt.

How is llms.txt different from robots.txt?

robots.txt says which crawlers may read your site; llms.txt tells AI assistants which information matters most. robots.txt is about permission, llms.txt is about summarising.

Should we block GPTBot or ClaudeBot?

GPTBot and ClaudeBot collect training data. Blocking them does not stop ChatGPT or Claude recommending you, because search and answers use different crawlers: OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, Claude-SearchBot and Claude-User. It is a policy decision, but never block the search-and-answer crawlers.

Which schema type should a clinic use?

MedicalClinic for general clinics, Dentist for dental clinics and Hospital for hospitals, plus opening hours (OpeningHoursSpecification), doctors (Physician) and FAQs (FAQPage) that match the page.

Can WordPress or Wix sites use these tools?

Yes. Most let you add schema code to the page head through a code field or plugin. llms.txt has to be uploaded to the site root; if your platform does not allow it, ask your web developer or provider.

Is the information I enter sent anywhere?

The llms.txt and schema generators run entirely in your browser and send nothing. The crawler checker sends only the website address so we can open its robots.txt and llms.txt, which are public files.
