Healthcare marketing trends for 2027 come down to one shift: patients now ask AI before they search, yet Google still sends the most traffic. Hospitals and clinics have to be found both ways, answer chats as well as patients have come to expect from AI, and measure all the way to the booking, in every language their patients use.

The past year brought several changes that hit healthcare marketing directly. OpenAI opened ChatGPT advertising in Thailand on 23 September 2026, AI assistants recommend only a handful of providers per question, general e-commerce platforms raised commissions several times, and Thailand’s Department of Health Service Support is enforcing advertising law on social media in earnest. Here are the 15 trends hospital and clinic marketing teams should prepare for before 2027, and what to do about each.

1. The next generation of patients is AI-native, and will not walk in before asking AI

Gen Z and younger are the core healthcare customers of the coming decade, and the heaviest users of AI assistants. US data, usually a leading signal for other markets, is clear:

FindingSource
61% of 18–29-year-olds use ChatGPT, against 19% of those 65 and overPew Research Center, February 2026
45% of Gen Z adults use AI chatbots for health informationRock Health, surveyed December 2025
36% of 18–29-year-olds used AI for physical health questions in the past year, about three times the rate of over-50sKFF, March 2026
41% of people using AI for health information do so to research before deciding to see a providerKFF, March 2026

This generation will compare every option in ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude before messaging you or walking in. If your information is not somewhere AI can read, you are not on the shortlist. Social-media-only marketing does not work for them, because AI picks up little from posts on closed platforms. You need a website or mini-website with clear facts, and AEO alongside SEO (trends 4 to 6).

2. ChatGPT ads have arrived in Thailand

OpenAI began testing ads in ChatGPT in the US in February 2026 and opened them in Thailand, with six other Southeast Asian markets and Taiwan, on 23 September 2026, with self-serve buying in Ads Manager from day one. By 21 October 2026 ads were sold in 89 countries and more than 100,000 advertisers had run campaigns. Ads show only on the Free and Go plans, and OpenAI says ad selection is separate from how answers are generated.

The difference from social media is timing: people asking ChatGPT about symptoms, treatments or prices are researching a decision.

  • Check which health services OpenAI’s policies currently allow, as health categories usually carry extra conditions
  • Remember that ads shown in Thailand still need approval under the hospital advertising law, like any channel
  • Start small with services people ask about often and decide on themselves, such as health checks, vaccines and dental care, and measure through to bookings

3. Reddit for foreigners in Thailand

Expats working in Thailand, long-stay residents and tourists ask each other in English-language communities where to see a doctor, roughly what it costs and whether insurance is accepted. Reddit is one of the main places these conversations happen, and its threads are often used by AI assistants and Google in their answers.

  • Listen first: follow what communities say about you and your competitors
  • If you advertise, target by community and location, and check Reddit’s healthcare ad policy and account requirements first
  • Do not post sales pitches in communities; they dislike covert selling, and posts inviting people to use a service count as ads that need approval
  • Put what foreigners need on your website in English, such as prices, English-speaking doctors and insurers accepted, so people who hear your name can find you

4. AEO and GEO: get AI to recommend you

AEO (answer engine optimisation) and GEO (generative engine optimisation) mean getting AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode to use your information and recommend you. They usually recommend only a few providers per question, so those without clear information disappear from the answer entirely.

  • Publish what AI needs to answer: starting prices, inclusions, doctors, hours and insurers accepted
  • Keep facts consistent everywhere: website, Google Business Profile and the platforms you sell on
  • Use structured data and FAQ pages that answer real patient questions
  • Measure monthly by asking AI your 20 key questions per service and noting how often you are recommended; see our hospital marketing guide

5. SEO is still the foundation

For all the attention on AI, traffic data is clear. Ahrefs found in February 2026 that Google sends about 40% of referral traffic to websites, against about 0.2% from ChatGPT, and Similarweb estimates that all AI assistants together still account for about 1% of website visits, though growing fast. Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode also build answers from Google’s own index, and many assistants use search results too. Pages that Google can find and understand are the foundation of AEO. In 2027, SEO is not the alternative to AEO; it comes first.

6. Social media alone is not enough: you need your own website

Many clinics use Facebook, Instagram, TikTok or LINE pages instead of a website. These are closed platforms: much of the content is hard to find or read from outside, and reaching more people costs more. AI assistants and Google can draw far less from social media than from websites. The answer need not be a big site: a mini-website with the main services, prices, doctors, hours, a map and FAQs, in the languages your patients use, is enough for Google and AI to understand and recommend you, and gives people who hear about you somewhere to go.

7. Patients expect AI-quality answers from your admins

People used to ChatGPT get instant, complete, specific answers, and now expect the same from a clinic’s chat. "Please message our admin", a generic promotion image instead of a price, or a reply two hours later sends them to ask somewhere else.

  • Reply within minutes, including evenings and weekends when people research most
  • Answer the actual question: the price of that service, available dates, what to prepare
  • Let AI answer routine questions from the clinic’s real information, and hand over to a person immediately for clinical questions or when the patient asks
  • Track median first response time and the share of chats that end in a booking

8. Rely less on general platforms and diversify patient acquisition

Clinics and hospitals that depend on one channel, such as Facebook ads or selling packages on general e-commerce platforms, are exposed every time the platform raises prices or changes rules. 2026 showed it: Shopee raised selling fees three times (April, June and August) and Lazada raised them several times over the same period, taking top rates in some categories close to 20% including VAT, before transaction fees and add-on programmes. Rates for health services depend on category and store type, but the direction is clear.

Employers and insurersEmployee health checks and insurer networks

Direct channels still matter most: no commission per case, and returning patients cost least of all. What has changed is that a small team can run them well with one system for chat, booking, patient data and recall, such as Jib OS.

9. Doctors are building their own followings, so hospitals need their own brand and CRM

Many doctors used to rely on hospitals and clinics to bring patients and simply held office hours at each. Now more of them build their own followings on TikTok, YouTube and personal pages; in August 2026 the Medical Council of Thailand ran a session specifically for doctors and medical influencers on advertising within the law. When patients follow the doctor rather than the hospital, a doctor with a following can choose where to practise and take patients along, and hospitals that depend on a few well-known doctors lose leverage.

The answer is not to compete with doctors but to make patients loyal to the hospital too:

  • Build the hospital and centre brand on the team, the care process, facilities and outcomes, not one doctor
  • Own direct channels: the hospital’s website, chat and LINE account
  • Use CRM for continuing care: follow-up reminders, repeat checks, ongoing medication and post-surgery care. Patients who stay on treatment tend to get better outcomes, be more satisfied and come back
  • Work with doctors’ personal brands: doctor pages on the hospital site and joint content with approved ads
  • Measure who patients are loyal to: the share of new patients from hospital channels against those following a doctor, and how many stay when their doctor leaves

Since July 2026, Medical Council rules also require doctors to show their real name and licence number in aesthetics advertising.

10. Data-driven marketing finally reaches healthcare

Many healthcare marketing teams measured reach, likes and chats, because bookings and revenue lived in another system. With slower growth and leaders asking for return on marketing spend, the figures that matter are cost per new patient who attends and 12-month revenue per new patient for each service. Start with data you already have: our patient cohort analysis tool finds revenue per patient from visit data.

11. Attribution from ad to chat to booking

Healthcare in Thailand closes sales in chat: patients see an ad, message on LINE or Facebook, talk to an admin and book. Ad platforms see the chat, not who booked or attended, so budgets are judged on cost per chat, which can point the opposite way from cost per patient.

  • Use a system that links each chat to the ad that brought it, and each booking to that chat
  • Send bookings and attendance back to the ad platforms, so they optimise for people who book, not just people who message
  • Report cost per booking and per attending patient by ad, campaign and service

12. Multilingual is now the baseline for every hospital and clinic

Multilingual marketing used to be the business of a few hospitals known for international patients. But according to ttb analytics, Thai private hospitals’ revenue from international patients grows 8.5% a year against 1.3% from Thai patients, and international patients are not only those who fly in for treatment: there are foreigners living and working in Thailand, tourists, and workers from neighbouring countries who use ordinary clinics every day.

  • Have web pages or a mini-website in your main patient groups’ languages, at least Thai and English
  • Answer chats in those languages and at the times international patients contact you, which may be the middle of the Thai night
  • Have prices, documents and processes ready in those languages before marketing; see marketing to international patients

13. Stricter advertising enforcement, with platforms involved

From October 2025 to March 2026, the Department of Health Service Support checked 4,521 hospital and clinic ad posts, found 2,433 likely to break the law, and had platforms take posts down. In 2027, getting ads right from the start is a marketing capability, not just a legal task.

14. The information gap is closing: treat appropriately and price transparently

Patients used to know far less than providers about which treatment was needed and what it should cost. Now, especially younger patients, they ask AI to explain a diagnosis, check whether each test or medicine is necessary, and compare prices before arriving; KFF found 41% of those using AI for health information do so to research before seeing a provider.

As the gap closes, practices some providers relied on, such as ordering tests or prescribing medicines patients do not need, or revealing the full cost only after treatment, get harder to sustain. Patients ask why, compare and write public reviews. Price pressure also comes from medical inflation, co-payment, insurers checking claims and steering members, and the Ministry of Public Health’s long-standing Rational Drug Use policy.

  • Treat and prescribe according to medical need, and explain each test and medicine. That trust becomes the brand
  • Show prices and inclusions up front, including possible extra costs and conditions
  • Give estimates before treatment for services that are not packages
  • Keep medical advice separate from selling, so add-ons are a clear choice, not tied to the main treatment
  • Publish honest content, such as when surgery or antibiotics are not yet needed; it builds trust and is what AI assistants tend to cite

15. Offer 0% instalments, in chat and at the counter

Patients’ spending power is tight. The Bank of Thailand reported household debt at 85.9% of GDP in the first quarter of 2026, banks are lending more cautiously, and household bank credit has been shrinking for several quarters. Many patients put off expensive, non-urgent care such as planned surgery, dental work and LASIK.

0% instalments on credit cards turn a large bill into an affordable monthly amount, and are often what lets a patient decide sooner.

  • Accept instalments wherever patients decide: payment links sent in chat right after the last question is answered, and card machines at the counter. Jib OS creates payment links inside the chat and supports payment at the counter
  • Build the instalment cost into your prices, since the seller usually pays the instalment fee
  • State the terms clearly: months, eligible banks and minimum amount, in chat and on the website
  • Advertising "0% instalments" is a promotion and needs its conditions stated and ad approval like any other ad

    Frequently asked questions

What are the healthcare marketing trends for 2027?

The main ones are younger patients researching through AI before choosing a provider, ChatGPT ads now live in Thailand, AEO alongside SEO, owning a website instead of relying on social media, fast and complete chat replies, relying less on general e-commerce platforms with rising commissions, hospital brands and CRM as doctors build their own followings, attribution from ad to chat to booking, multilingual marketing, appropriate treatment with transparent pricing, and 0% instalments.

Why does Gen Z matter for hospital and clinic marketing?

Gen Z and younger are the core patients of the next decade and the heaviest AI users. In the US, 61% of 18–29-year-olds use ChatGPT and 45% of Gen Z adults use AI for health information. They compare options in AI before getting in touch, so providers need information AI can read, such as a website or mini-website, not just social media.

Can hospitals and clinics advertise on ChatGPT in Thailand?

ChatGPT ads have been available in Thailand since 23 September 2026 with self-serve buying, but health categories usually carry extra conditions under OpenAI’s policies, so check whether your services qualify. Every ad shown in Thailand still needs approval under the hospital advertising law.

Is AEO more important than SEO now?

Not for traffic. Google still sends many times more visits than AI assistants, and Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode build answers from its own index. SEO is the foundation of AEO; do both, starting with pages that give clear answers to patients’ questions.

Should hospitals and clinics keep selling on general e-commerce platforms?

Keep going if it still pays, but do not rely on it. Shopee and Lazada raised selling fees several times in 2026, with top rates in some categories close to 20% including VAT. Build direct channels such as your website, chat and CRM, and use healthcare-native platforms such as HDmall, which charges Jib OS users no commission.

How should hospitals respond as doctors build their own followings?

Make patients loyal to the hospital too, rather than competing with doctors: build the hospital and centre brand on the team, the care process and outcomes, own direct channels, use CRM for continuing care such as follow-ups and ongoing medication, and work with doctors’ personal brands through doctor pages and approved joint content.

How do patients who research with AI change things for providers?

They arrive with detailed questions, know other providers’ prices and ask why each test or medicine is needed. Unnecessary tests or prescriptions and revealing the full cost only afterwards get harder to sustain. Providers that treat according to need, explain clearly and show prices up front have the advantage.

    Why offer 0% instalments?

Spending power is tight: Thai household debt was 85.9% of GDP in early 2026 and banks are lending more cautiously. 0% instalments on credit cards make expensive, non-urgent care easier to decide on. Offer them by payment link in chat and at the counter, and build the cost into your prices.

    Where should we start?

With the foundations everything else needs: a website or mini-website with clear information, fast chat replies, and measurement from ad to booking. Then test new channels such as ChatGPT ads. Use the readiness check above to see your gaps.
